That some conservative MEPs feel their stature has been downgraded is neither here nor there. The Tory party, and those that vote for them, are firmly against further integration, (with the obvious exception of Ken Clarke). It would therefore have been entirely hipocritical to stay in a grouping that supported more integration, at whatever pace.
