I can see why the U.K. need either the U.S. or Europe, but not why either of the other two ultimately needs the U.K. So where does this leave the U.K.?

In a ‘special’ relationship (ie special as in retarded) with the USA, and a schitzophernic relationship with the rest of Europe.
