I thank you sir, it's essentially my 'can we please stop blaming the French for what Chirac gets up to' argument writ large; yes, he may be playing the game anyway, but the French don't like him either. 7 year terms. nearly 4 years in, only another 3 before we might be able to get somewhere.
Roll on the 6th Republic…

Better than that Mat, the 2002 election was to a 5 year term so there's a Presidential Election next year.
